I apologize for the huge lapse in posts, I'm a busy man. Just wanted to let everyone know that I will be up in Montreal on July 12th and 13th (my first time! What a shameful canadian I am....) for the Pomme Pomme craft and zine fair. Hosted by Amy Johnson (Wooden Apples) and Tom Devlin (Drawn & Quarterly Books) this is sure to be the scene to be seen! I will be debuting (hopefully, keeping my fingers crossed) a new little zine titled BOILED BEEF and I'll also be bringing some tiny paintings, comics and hopefully a new shirt design. You'll have to show up to see what surprises I spring!
Anyway, this will be my only summer appearance, I'm hard at work on a big show in the fall, so I must go away from the world again until then. So please try and stop by!

I was sad to hear that one of the greatest cartoonists(ever)has passed away. He was a
huge influence on me when I was a kid, and without those beat up MAD paperbacks that
my brother had lying around his room, I wouldn't be an artist today. He was incredibly inventive and funny. I would stare at each panel that he drew for hours, just soaking in all the background details, and wishing someday I could do what he did. I'm glad I was able to meet him at the San Diego Comic Con a few years back. Rest in Peace Mr. Elder. You will be missed.

Good Lord. Here's another "monster" influence on me. James Ensor. I viewed this painting at the Getty Center a couple of years ago and I practically got down on my knees and starting weeping. The scale of it took me by surprise. A European masterpiece.

The thing I like most about having a blog is that from time to time I get to tell people about things that I like and people who are doing things that I like. Rick Bradford is one of those people. I Think I first started corresponding with Rick back in 1994 when he asked if he could review an issue of my first mini-comic "Boobytit" in his review zine, "Poopsheet". I was thrilled that someone cared, and I sent it off to him. Since then Rick has stopped doing his zine and concentrated on selling comics online. I've sold every mini-comic that I have ever done at Rick's online store. He is a true champion of comics. He and I haven't met over the last thirteen years, but if we ever do, I don't know how I would thank him for being one of the nicest people I have never met. Please check out his site and buy some comics. He has an amazing selection. Thanks Rick!

2007 MOCCA musings!

Haven't had much time since MOCCA last weekend to post anything about the show. It was my first time having a table,
and I had a really fun time. I didn't get to walk around very much, but what I did see was great, and all of the people who came up to my table were
first rate. I was also thrilled to meet a couple of my favorite artists, who went on to embarass and humble me by saying that they are fans of my miniscule body of work. Went to a beautiful mid-century landmark in NYC this past weekend (Lever House) for an art opening, and was stunned by a giant statue out front. It is by artworld "bad boy" Damien Hirst. The subject matter is of course somewhat edgy, but it was the sheer size of the thing that made it stand out. I stood below(and above)it and it was fun to examine it from all sides. I think the building still came out the winner for sheer beauty and style.

Just got back from a trip to NYC. While I was there I made a long overdue visit to the Adam Baumgold gallery (74 E 79th street @ Park Ave) to see a show by one of my favorite artists,(and a really nice guy too)MARC BELL. This is his third solo show at Mr. Baumgold's gallery and one of his best. I am always blown away by Marc's work, but I have never seen so many of his originals all in one room. He also did some terrific collaborations with the amazing Christian Schumann, their styles really compliment each other twisting inside and out of my brain. I could have spent many hours there pouring over the details, but alas I had a sleeping 3 year old and a lovely but tired wife to attend to in the car outside. The show is up for a couple more weeks, and I highly recommend it.

Seattle trip

The family and I just got back from a week in seattle. We had a blast. Hadn't been there in about a year. It was good to see our family and some old friends. We did a lot of tourist stuff,
places I never went to the whole time I lived there, but it's fun when you have a energetic three year old showing you around! We also checked out the new Fantagraphics store down in georgetown. It's great. Highly recommended. Even picked up a Jim Woodring book half price in the "damaged room"(minor dings and scuffs=1/2 off). He has a show up on the walls thru May 15th. Fly,drive or walk there now. Much thanks go out to Eric, Rhea and Jacob for being good pals.

This time it was "mortified", which is a phenomenom sweeping the country where people get up on stage and read from their childhood journals or diarys. Yikes! no thanks.....but thank you BUST! It's been six years since the last full color issue (he made a 6 page appearance in Bete Noire #1 published by Fantagraphics last year)and I figured it was about time I got off my butt and put out another one! This one will be a bit bigger, a whole lot longer, and will contain a few special guest appearances (TBA). Check my blog for updates and other news as it becomes available. Fast forward 7 months and I have just discovered that Henry is a real honest to goodness vacuum cleaner! (my wife and I saw one being used in a hotel we recently stayed at). Why have I not known about him until now? Why am I so obsessed about a mundane household appliance? Is it because I do the vacuuming at our house? (maybe) Is is because I work with cartoon imagery in my artwork? (probably)Could it be because from what I have read online about Henry, it sounds like he is the greatest performing little vacuum that there ever was? (YES!) Well, I have since ordered a Henry, and after it arrives and I give it a once around the house test run,(and after I hug it too) I will post what I think of Numatic Henry. (for anyone who cares....)

They are both printed on fancy french creme paper. 100% cotton, acid free,archival,signed and numbered, etc...etc. They measure 5 3/4" x 7"and are $10 each(plus s/h). Only 20 of each will EVER be made, so get them now.
